Gwembe Valley

This valley lies on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe near Lake Kariba on the Zambezi River. The Tonga (also called 'Batongo') who live here are the oldest Bantu settlers in southern Zambia. Despite unbearable heat and an unforgiving terrain, the Tonga manage to survive in this harsh environment.
